Comic Relief Social Work

Great Essays
Think back to when you were around the age of 10 or 11, what were you doing? Were you working a full time job, living alone or on the streets? Were you scavenging for anything you could find to make sure you got your next meal? There are more than 3 million people living in poverty and struggle daily. Working long hours everyday and making an average of $2.45 a day; and believe it or not a large majority of these workers are children.
Comic Relief is an organization based in the U.K. that is doing all they can to help put these children in schools. There goal is to get them out of some of these terrible working/living conditions. I heard about this organization about two years ago. For Christmas my father and I flew out to London, England for the holidays. As we made our way through London, I came across a sign that read “Red Nose Society, Donate Today!” So me and my dad entered this building that was advertising this so called “Red Nose Society”. When we entered we saw a lot of images of children that looked terrible. Covered in dirt, rummaging through trash, living on the streets. We then stumbled across a chart with many different projects--fundraiser--concerts and

One of the ways they've done this is dedicate a whole day to spreading awareness; May 25th is nation “Red Nose Day” and it was created to help raise awareness and money. It may seem silly, but “Red Nose Day” has had a huge impact on this organization. You can find people all around the world wearing “Red Noses” (hence the name “Red Nose Day”) that they purchased. When you buy a red nose all the money that goes into that purchase goes to Comic Relief or similar organizations that are all about ending poverty. By wearing a red nose on May 25th it's a way to show that you have donated to Comic Relief or just to spread awareness. So I guess my question for you is, have you ever heard of Comic

Arnisha Jones University of Michigan-Flint While reading the book “Fire in the Ashes: The twenty-five years among the poorest children in America”, I gained understanding of why the book was chosen to be read within my sociology class. The author, Johnathan Kozol, gave a very good detail and needed story about the issue of poverty and children and families living in it. In today’s generation everyone has a chance to be blessed in a variety of ways, but yet poverty is still a huge issue. I think that many have gained this attitude of “do better for yourself and leave to a better environment”, and forgot about those that are left behind; Instead of staying and helping change for the better.…

With health as our main issue, my service group traveled to the DC Diaper Bank on Tuesday, November 17, to get a glimpse of what the organization was about. We were welcomed with open arms, and shown an informational film about the non-profit. The organization is similar to a food pantry, but instead they focus on diapers, and infant needs. The four of us were placed at the last four volunteer stations, as the non-profit was not in an active search for volunteers. Our first job was to wrap sets of twenty-five diapers in saran wrap, according to their size.…

The first step to ending child poverty would be to spread awareness of it. People do not realize how much child poverty is affecting the world. They may be too caught up on the smaller issues when this issue is easily spiraling out of control. I would spread awareness of child poverty by talking to the youth about it. They can make a difference even though they are young.…
