Comic & Co: Course Analysis

Taking this course on Comic & Co. made me think differently about comics. I always thought comic is boring and all you see is pictures and less words, it’s more like a picture book. But so far in this course I learned so much about comics. The picture in the books does most of the storytelling. It explains why there is not a lot of words in comic books. The faces the author draws on the character tells a story. I learned that comics are not easy to make. There is so many different steps and details you need to focus on. After reading the book “Making Comics” by Scott McCloud it open eye about how I feel about comics. In the book what stood out the most the me is on page 85. On page 85 it talks about mixing two face emotion into one face emotion. I found that really cool that you can come up with mixing two faces that doesn't connect in any way and turning it into a face. For example in the book disgust and joy makes an emotion called “EEWW!” It’s pretty cool to see how Scott can come up with unique ways by adding two different face emotions and finalizing with its own name. There is a good number of presentation in this class and speaking in front of a class was something I was always scared and nervous about. It’s probably because I was scared of what people will think about the work we did as a group, forgetting what to say and saying something wrong. From watching the TED talk Brown IDEO Stanford I was not the only person that is scare about their work. Tim Brown the speaker at TED made his auditions to draw the person next to them in 30 sec. When the 30 sec was up, he heard a lot of people saying “sorry” and laughing. Even adults are embarrassed about their work.
