“Comedy is Australia’s second nature”

Have you ever heard the saying, Comedy is Australia’s second nature. Well it’s true. Comedy is what Australia lives for. It’s how, we as a nation, survived the war, the great depression and every other terrible thing that has tried to conquer Australia? As American journalist Hugh Sidey once said “A sense of humour is needed armour. Joy in one’s heart and some laughter on one’s lips is a sign that the person down deep has a pretty good grasp of life”.
Comedy is one thing we love, especially in films, but what about songs and poems. We have some pretty hilarious poems not to mention songs. One thing you will notice is if you look through the history of poems, songs and films …show more content…
The humour in this film is everywhere. For an instance is when Sue gets attacked and Dundee kills the crocodile and Sue asks if it dead and Dundee replies “Well, if it isn 't, it 'll be a helluva job skinning the bastard”.
What about songs. Can’t they be humorous, well the songs Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sports and The land Down Under are humorous song that have a place in our hearts. The song Kangaroo tie me down sport by Ralph Harris, is filled with humour, from the start Ralph says they are dangerous but then goes on to make a joke that says “tie me kangaroo down sports” which means try controlling those wild and dangerous animals.
The song Down Under by the Men At Work is a great a song. It describes Australia in a way that doesn’t make it stereotypical. The song Down Under is hilarious look at the fourth verse were it says "I come from a land down under, Where beer does flow and men chunder, Can 't you hear, can 't you hear the thunder, You better run, you better take cover”. This verse describes us perfectly yet at the same time is a humorous verse with several slang words in
