Comedic Improv Research Paper

I love performing improv because it helped me be more outgoing, requires a lot of creative thinking, ends up being fun, and it's challenging. Improv helped me break out of my shell. I also perform in musicals and straight plays, and going into auditions became stressful for me. One time, I almost didn't walk in to auditions because I got so nervous and insecure. When I started improv, I became more confident with myself because I felt like I could take my insecurities …show more content…

The conflicts and characters created, based on one word or term, end up with crazy results; the most memorable moments end up becoming inside jokes, or leave behind a reputation for the certain performer. Because of improv, I got into a discussion with my friends and teammates on the meaning of antidisestablishmentarianism. During shows, these scenes are the scenes the audience adores. I've found it so fun to entertain audiences with the games we play. When the audience enjoys it, they give off this energy I can only find when I'm on stage performing. I find it very rewarding when the audience is happy because I know what I think is fun just made someone else's day. Even though it may sound and look easy, improv is challenging. Sometimes, there is a bit of pressure lingering during shows. Imagine the first thing that comes to mind is the first thing that comes out of your mouth, and although your teammate, or even you, don't like or understand it, you make a scene out of it anyway. Also, one of the rules for the performer is that he or she is not trying to be funny, even though the audience wants a good

The quote really makes me want to keep pushing forward and never slow up, because the only way I will succeed in doing anything is by doing with no hesitation.…

Indulge the whims of your partner, especially since things may crop up as you perform that you didn't think of, or deal with as you prepared your skit. The best improvisational actors are able to take the things their partner presents and build upon that making them vital and interesting parts of the skit. Once, I was playing a baseball player who had been injured and was delirious with pain and I was trying to hook up with Taylor's character in an ambulance. Out of the blue, I decide to propose, "Will you do me the honor of being my baseball player's wife?…

Personally, I believe that every person should attend one theatrical performance. Before I became a high schooler, I had attended several performances, granting opportunities to grasp the culture that the fine arts produces. The fine arts has given the freedom to appreciate different worlds, cultures, and societies that are either fictional or true. Regrettably, the fine arts livelihood and strength are not as prevalent as it should be due to the egocentrism of America. Cultural diversity in today’s society has an unquestionable limited presence.…

The strongest improv rule I did was keeping everything going throughout the whole entire process, trying to build off of everyone else’s idea. Through Conducted Story to Mr. Know-It-All I did my utmost best to make every sentence make sense and if it suddenly changed, go off of someone else’s emotions, and idea of a story. In Mr. Know-It-All most of our sentences made no sentences, I attempted to make sense of them and roll off of their ideas, when Mark would say the weirdest word that did not even make sense, it would morph the whole sentence into something else while I have this idea rolling off of the other sentence. In Conducted Story with the City Under the Waters, it was a weird story, and I was absolutely clueless on how to build…

It has been genuinely engaging and enjoyable to read the articles selected for this improvisation class. It’s no surprise that “Boooorrriinng!!!” was entertaining as well; however, I found it strange. I value the lessons derived from the article, but I find Philippe Gaulier’s teaching methods to be excessive and avant-garde. If I’m being completely honest, I think the author’s writing style is a bit pretentious, which adds to the over-the-top atmosphere of the article (ex. “…

The slapstick comedy portion of the film added diversity to the emotions portrayed in the story. The majority of the comedy, slapstick theme is portrayed by characters including: Malasun, Old Mao, Mr. Representative, and Frog (Wang 146). We find Malasun typically expressing comical behavior through his actions and the way he responds or reacts to certain scenarios.
