Comas In Grammar Moves

The point of grammar I still struggle with is the correct placement of the comma. As I read through the chapter discussing commas in Grammar Moves, I realized that it may be more the matter of recognizing what the independent clause actually is in the sentence and then separating it properly from the dependent clause. The text refers to this as essential and nonessentially information. The “Purdue OWL” website has a section on “Extended Rules for Using Commas,” that helped clarify what is actually the independent clause. Review Work According to Kollinker and Richner’s article, Naviagation in a cup: chick positioning in a great tit, Parus major, nests, “the angle between male and female feeding position varies across nests between 0 degrees and 180 degrees and the individual feeding location of each parent appears to be stable over the nestling period”. This situation creates a source of contention between siblings over food. If a parent provides food from the same position in the nest, there is only one advantageous feeding site for the siblings to compete for but if both parents feed at different positions in the nest, then there are two ideal sites, which cuts the offspring profitability in half. If both parents chose to sit in two locations relatively…

In "Maligned Braceros: Kicking Out Immigrants Doesn't Raise Wages," the author paralleled today's anti-immigration rhetoric with that of the 1960s, when President Kennedy ended the bracero program, saying the usage of Mexican guest workers caused depressed wages and job loss for Americans. However, research shows that ending the bracero program did not result in higher wages and more work for Americans; instead, American workers were replaced by machines (Maligned Braceros, 2017). In a time when immigration is a contentious topic, "Maligned Braceros" provides readers with a thought-provoking example of past immigration policies and their implications, prompting consideration of the economic reasoning for immigration and contemplation of which immigration policies are most effective.…

How does a play about a bastard, orphan, son of a whore go on and on grow into more of a phenomenon? Lin Manuel Miranda changed Broadway in 2015 with his musical Hamilton. Inspired by a biography by Ron Chernow about the life of Alexander Hamilton, Miranda went to work on what might be the most influential musical of the decade. Miranda, in creating his work, had to work through the constraints, find the exigence, and establish the audience for writing a Broadway musical while also making it original and inimitable. With clever casting and even better syntax, Miranda made the life of Alexander Hamilton more riveting than any textbook ever could.…

Our understanding of chemical changes have made a bigger impact on human lives than our understanding of physical changes. A piece of evidence that supports this is in the video called Your Brain on Coffee it says “Adenosine slows down your brain, but because there is caffeine in coffee it ‘replaces’ the adenosine so you don’t feel tired.” This shows that… For example, in the video How Does Anesthesia Work it states that “Inhalational anesthesia acts on the entire nervous system and brain”. To begin with, Squealer uses manipulative language, he claims that the pigs have been eating the milk and apples to maintain health when that is not the case. Squealer tells his audience,”milk and apples contain substances absolutely necessary to the well-being of a pig,” to justify the pigs actions (Orwell ). The relationship between thought and language holds a diverse range of theories. Much of the background literature suggests that the connection between the two begins as early as infancy, with some research into the field of anthropology. Three key figures in its origins are Vygotsky, Piaget and Sapir-Whorf. Vygotsky held a cultural, or ontogenetic, view on the origins of thought and language. In his view, language and thought held two separate roots that developed on a parallel which had crossed at a point.…
