Bush’s speech comforted the devastated nation by telling us acts of heroism and by telling us that we were going to get the men who did it. He wanted to comfort the nation because we were all affected by the tragedy of September 11th. He knew that we were confused about who did this and why anyone would ever do this. He comforted us by saying that the world was with us, supporting us and that we would never forget our nation’s national anthem playing at places such as Buckingham Palace, the streets of Paris and Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate. Knowing that the world’s prayers and support was with us reminded us that the entire world felt for us in the face of this tragedy.…

Without a doubt there has been an absurd amount of historical events that have impacted America in many ways. A big way that these historical events end up happening in the first place is because of speeches that people have given, for example one of them being John F. Kennedy’s speeches. He has had a variety of speeches and he was a really big voice in history, whenever he spoke everyone would listen because he was just that type of guy that influences everyone. In most of his speeches whether he was aware of it or not he used rhetorical devices to get whatever point he was trying to get across to the people. In John F. Kennedy’s Greater Houston Ministerial Association speech, he used, Amplification, Anaphora, and Antimetabole to establish…

In the book of Matthew 15:13-16, Jesus discusses the notion of being a city on a hill. In Winthrop 's speech he tells his shipmates that they will to be a “city on a hill”. Many major politicians have referenced the “city on a hill” speech such a former presidents John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan. Kennedy’s speech and Reagan’s farewell address use Winthrop’s “City upon a Hill” speech differently. Kennedy uses the speech in a positive way because he is about to enter the office for his presidency and therefore he doesn’t know how the whole “city on a hill” idea works with America, this is just his prediction for when he starts his term.…

“Greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right. Greed works” (Garcia, 2010, para.1), this quote by Gordon Gekko in the infamous movie Wall Street has become the mantra of many who dream of working as stock brokers, business moguls and corporate raiders. The concept behind Gekko’s speech was that greed is the driving force behind our evolution as mankind and greed, for all things, is what lets us continue to thrive. The opinion Gekko was preaching is in many ways correct, greed is good for the economy and business, greed is innately within us as humans and greed for centuries has been the push behind innovation and development.…

While analyzing historical texts, one should always proceed with caution, and read tentatively; specifically, due to misinterpretations, false translations, and basic human error, verbal speeches delivered in previous centuries tend to succumb to inaccuracies, which leads to false transcripts of the actual work. Despite this, one can still appreciate the words of Chief Seattle, the Native American chieftain of the Suquamish tribe, in his speech Address, which was presented to the European settlers in America circa 1854. In his speech, Chief Seattle presents his beliefs concerning the white settlers wishing to purchase his tribe’s land in order to create modern cities and European infrastructure. In return for access to their land, the settlers…

President Barack Obama speech on " Don't Tell Me Words Don't Matter" inspired me as a young African American male who attends The College of Staten Island to see hope in a different way than it is explained in the dictionary. According to the dictionary, hope means "the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best". But President Obama definition of hope is to " imagine and fight for". For example, President Barack Obama had a dream that everyone in the Untied States would have free healthcare. He didn't say I hope it will happen one day, no what he did was make speeches to congress and other important people about how no one should be turned down because they don't have healthcare.…

I’ve chosen to focus on “Writing Process” as the subject of this reflective introduction, using my analysis paper, “Analysis of Robert Khayat’s Inauguration Speech,” and my argument paper, “Abortion: Helpful or Hurtful to our Economy?,” as examples of how important this learning outcome has been to my overall growth in Writing 101 this semester. I chose this outcome because on every paper I wrote this semester I had issues with drafting, revising, editing, and proofreading my work. A lot of my papers could have used some work, but I’m not one who is good coming up with ideas or well at fixing grammar mistakes. Writing process is an important part of writing because it’s the start and finish of a paper, and being able to perform the writing process well will help me be able to…
