I remember not knowing whether to be anxious excited or nervous. Maybe a mixture of all three… I mean I was getting to leave my house and family for a weekend and stay in Columbus Ohio with a group of people from my youth group. But, little did I know how exciting this trip would actually be.
We loaded up the big blue church bus Friday night after school with anticipation for the trip, although we prolonged the 5 hour drive there. We chose to entertain ourselves with some good ole card games nobody actually knew how to play.. you could say it became slightly chaotic. Once we hit the middle of the trip and everyone became anxious and wanted to get off the bus our youth leader suggested charades. We became quickly entertained with each other's

During all the commotion the leaders also announced room arrangements. I remember being so excited because I got assigned a room with 5 of my friends in the grade above me.
We arrived in a parking lot around dusk hauling all of our things off the bus as we paused at the sight of a beat up old motel. Katie suddenly stopped in her steps beginning to ask if this is really where we were staying and if it was safe to sleep here. The leaders assured her it was safe, ignoring the sketchy appearance. The 20 some students who came all split up into the rooms with our designated group leader and ditched our stuff in our rooms before heading off to dinner.
Despite the interesting looks of the motel, we got on with our night. Not knowing what the conference we were going to would be like I wasn't all that pumped up until dinner time. We finished dinner at a mall food court and expected to just pack up the bus. Instead, our youth leaders announced we would be going on a mall scavenger hunt, in huge mall, in Ohio... a place we had never been before. Of course we were thrilled with the challenge throw at us and off we went. After an hour or so of the scavenger hunt we we're pretty pumped up for what was next. We loaded up the bus once again ready for this the conference that was supposedly

A Taste of Domesticity in Stokes State Forest Throughout my four years of high school, I had never had a friend come back from a post-prom weekend in Wildwood and describe to me what sounded like a “good time.” The stories they told always had the same synopsis that centered around drunken fun and even drunker stupidity. Hordes of juniors and seniors slept in small dirty motel rooms. They spent way too much money on alcohol, and they often got swindled into paying hundreds of dollars to stay in an otherwise dirt cheap motel because no decent place would allow teenagers to party like they did. They sat in their hotel rooms and drank the beautiful New Jersey beach days away, waiting for the sun to set so they could continue their drunken…

The group of friends standing right in front of us jumped and sang every word of the songs being sung. We were only 30 seconds into the first song he sang, there was no one in the crowd in sight just standing there. Days before, I remember counting down for the day to approach. Waiting for that day filled with country music, sunshine, cowboy boots, and hats. It was the stereotypical perfect day, i've been waited for this the entire summer, ever since we heard of it on Wild Country 99.…

It was late November on the day of the Egg Bowl in 2014. Mississippi State fans from all over Mississippi were traveling to Oxford to witness the Bulldogs to take on the Rebels. Just two days after Thanksgiving, it was a crisp and cold fall day. At the current time, I was more of a State fan over Ole Miss fan, so on that day I happened to be warmly dressed in maroon. Little did I know, dressing in maroon would turn out to be a horrible idea.…
