Almost 20 years ago, two high school students altered the public school environment as we knew it at that time. Granted, there were plenty of other incidents involving guns and school grounds, but none on this massive level. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold took the time to journal and plot the murders of their peers and teachers at Columbine High School in April 1999. The journals that were left behind tell just some of what they were experiencing; but no one could quite figure out the motive for the mass murder. Then there were no one to explain as both Harris and Klebold took their own lives after they were finished. Theories were thrown about as to why they felt the need to go on such a rampage. Those ranged from being bullied to being a part of a clique known as the "Trench Coat Mafia outcasts” who were taking vengeance against their tormenters to mental illness. Even though they attempt to remain unbiased, they do come off as being so. There were reports of bullying that stood out as the story broke. On the other hand, anyone that would encounter this story knew that Columbine was not going to be considered as just another school shooting. Questions lingered as to why they did, what was going through their heads and when this was initially thought of to be acted upon (Brown & Merritt, 2002). Research has indicated that school shooters tend to execute acts thoughtlessly and hurt the objectives of their anger (Larkin, 2007). In this case, it was indicated that the shooters were targets of bullies for being social outcasts and goths. The plans were made for a year and planned to highlight much more. Their butchery was intended for teachers and students, but it was not inspired by bitterness of any specific person. These persons were just convenient for the plan to be handled in the manner that they chose to do
