On a normal school day at Columbine High School, students were attending lunch and doing class work in the library not expecting anything in particular to happen. Actually no one in the U.S. expected or was ready for what came to be on April 20, 1999 to the 1,945 students attending Columbine High School. On April 20,1999 at 11:19 a.m. two Columbine students wearing trench coats went on a rampage outside of the school shooting students and staff. The students were Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, who killed 12 students, including a staff member, leaving more than 20 others injured. Their original plan was to bomb the school, but after they set the bombs in their places around the school, they didn’t go off as expected. As the bombs showed malfunctions they became fierce and took matters into their own hands. After they shot and killed many students they pulled the trigger on themselves ending their lives. This impacted the nation greatly it was one of the first deadly shootings ever seen at that time. The nation was devastated it wasn’t ready for an event like this one to occur. Since, the Columbine shooting in the 1990’s nothing has been improved to secure our students. This should be an issue that should be settled now by the people instead of waiting for congress to debate about how to solve this situation while many students are still in danger. Schools must add security measures, better active shooter training procedures, and more funds to increase security inside the school in order to secure the students. If society doesn’t do nothing now students will continue to be in danger and school crimes would still be increasing. These steps are the necessary building blocks to secure the safety of our students and ensure the improvements in school
