On little island Rhodes one of the largest statues once stood. The Colossus of Rhodes. The Colossus of Rhodes was one of the seven ancient wonders of the world, and the most aggressive and tallest statue in the hellenistic period. The Colossus of Rhodes fell due to an earthquake. A war broke out between Demetrius and the people of Rhodes. Demetrius brought along over 40,000 men and also got more men because Demetrius brought Aegean pirates. The rhodians protected their city with a big tall wall, because of the wall the attackers were forced to use siege towers. Demetrius used a huge tower that had to be pulled by six ships lashed together. This tower though was destroyed when a storm suddenly came, causing the battle to be won by the Rhodians.
