We barely even see the colossal squid (which is ironic because of its name). We humans have only seen one colossal squid alive and the rest dead. They are not on the endangered list and we do not hunt them. Reports say that there is not many of them. Although, there could be hundreds of colossal squids, we don’t know because they are extremely hard to find because they can live thousands of meters deep. Of course, scientists are still studying the colossal squid to know and understand these creatures better. Overall, still not much is know about them. Scientists still do not know what the average lifespan is, how many there are under the ocean, or how they give birth. Neither do we know how the young behave or which gender is the longest or heaviest. But it is better then how we knew the colossal squid in the 20th century. The only items of evidence scientists previously had were beaks, tentacles, and other parts of fallen colossal squids that were slowly digesting in the stomachs of sperm whales (one of the colossal squids predators) that had been beached and had died or previously captured and killed whales. This all changed in 2-22-2007. The scientists finally had a whole body of a female colossal squid body for evidence and
