Colored Lens Reflecting Colored Light

Colored lens reflecting colored light in each volume, exude the concept of “different lights.” On each of the large windows of “bottle of light” the baffles are pained with a bright color, reflecting colored light into the chapel. This colored light begins to “pulse” when clouds pass overhead. Each “bottle of light” creates plays of shadow and reflects complimentary colors, so that if you stare at a blue rectangular light reflection it becomes yellow when looking at the white backdrop. Throughout the year, daylight is projected from these colored lenses, making the space a unique place of reflection and meditation.

His features are difficult to make out, but the boy’s, I can see clearly. The boy’s eyes are closed and one hand is touching the edge of the table, while the other touches his forehead. Although, their hands are not in praying position and the old man’s features are lost, the young boy’s image portrays that they are preparing to say grace. Dead Again uses different lighting techniques to create dramatic contrast and a sense of mood in each scene. This is highlighted through the film noir scenes when dramatic high contrast was achieved by using two extremes of lighting, a lack of light and a heavy amount of light. This was especially shown in the opening interrogation scene. During the scene the light in the room was the only light source present and everything else was in complete darkness. In the scene the contrast was so strong that in order to be visible the actor playing Roman Strauss had to lean forward into the light source.…

The use of zenithal light, contrasting light and shadow for focal interiors, moving lights in the raw concrete walls, or composed reflected light help to attain the highest artistic level. We can clearly see this in all Ando's works. In the Church of the Light, for example, the theme of emptiness dominates, because in both sections of the building, emptiness enlists as the principal goal. The box of light is an area encircled by glass, where the four separated crosses set, and the dominant element is the framed blue sky, natural light which impresses the viewer with the solemn, transparent ideal.. He takes a typical view of one entering a bar and almost tilts it on an axis by placing the viewer in the corner of the room. The tables lining the walls filled with what appears to be drunk customers and their tables littered with drinks adds to the depressing feel he originally intended with his color selection. Van Gogh places what appears to be a representation of himself besides the pool table all alone with nothing but the bottle. This appears to be a nod to Van Gogh’s self awareness of alcoholism. He balances this focal point with the open doorway located to the left implying an emptiness as well as forcing the viewer to wonder what lies…
