Concert Report #2
For my second concert report I attended the Colorado State University Honor Band recital. This was help December 12, 2015 at the Griffin Concert Hall. This concert was a collective group of honor band students from a variety of Colorado high schools and home schooled students. A range from freshmen to seniors. These students were standouts and handpicked from their respects schools. This was a students were led by conductor Rodney Dorsey. Dorsey comes from the University of Oregon School of music and dance. At the University of Michigan where he taught undergraduate conducting. The first piece that was preformed was Symphonic Suite put together by a five movement work. I came in the order of Intrada, Chorale, March, Antique …show more content…
The rhythm of the song was consistent, here and there is ranged but nothing to force. The tempo to me felt a slower at the start. Then gradually toward the end it picked up. I felt as the harmony of this as very complex. This was a familiar to me, later on recognized it as a fragment part from ‘Break Forth O Beauteous Heavenly Light’ which was written by Johann Sebastian Bach, which I have heard many times at church. Thought the performance I noticed that the trumpet players kept inserting and taking out a part from the bell. Seemed as it softened the sound it was giving off. I guess it was a well picked piece to preform due to Christmas slowly …show more content…
By John P. Painter. The tone starts off almost frantic, each section echoes off each other, almost as it seemed over lapped. To me I felt as it had a very wild range in its tone. The melody was never still or on a flat line, towards the end in settled into a middle section where everyone was able to collectively able to stay at the same tone. The bet or tempo at the start I notice had me tapping my toes. I notice when the piece changed gears and calm was after the flutes had a solo part of their own. That was kind of the turning point. Also I had to give notice to the triangle player, even though he had a small instrument, the way he contributed was quite surprising. There was a long period of time he had to keep beat and pace with the rest which looked easy but I noticed he had to get into it himself with head bobs to keep himself in rhythm. I really took notice to how each individual ether taped there toe or movement with their knee to keep rhythm with the
