Color Wheel Symbolism

Most of color harmonies consist of combination of two or more colours within a specific relationship on the color wheel where one of them is dominant.
For example in horror films if we use orange and teal, blue will be the dominant because we want to show more of the cold side and because we want it to look scary.
Sometimes a red colour is shown to represent blood, while a blue represents an effect that makes the audience calm.

To achieve orange and teal orange is pushed to highlights and blue to shadows and Skin tones lie between red and yellow on the colour wheel. Basically, we first see The color wheel which is a helpful tool for colour control because it show us where the colors are placed, in terms of orange and teal I would associate

Bellantoni proposes that red and yellow hues are used to heighten a sense of romance.
Amelie is one of the films that has a look of Red and Yellow, what I could see from this film is colours that transmit a sense of romance, love, and how it changes from romance to sadness is very incredible. Some of the scenes contain green and red as a complimentary colour.

To achieve this kind of look I would push yellow to highlights, red to mid tones and green to shadows, just a little bit of green to shadows. Not just that, the production design of the film would also help a lot because it plays a very important role on set, in Amelie if they did not have this kind of clothes and also wardrobe of what we see on the background it would be very difficult to achieve this look, lets say if she did not have the lips on red or the red t-shirt. It would be a big problem to achieve this look. I think they choose this look to make the film more familiar and romantic for the audience. The colours used in this film looks to be a bit warm as well which is good for something that does not involve murderers but yes only

These are colors that are usually associated with concepts such as “good” and “evil.” When the characters are simply sitting in leisure such as eating a meal, these scenes have a heavy blue tone of color maybe serving as a representation of peace and calmness these characters are experiencing though their lives are entrenched with traumatic moments. That is where the red tone comes in to display the “evils” done unto or by them. In the case of Yunhee, the red tone is heavily expressed in scenes involving meat, something she would associate with her step-father who continuously sexually abuses her and also seems to abuse her own mother. Also as a result of the young girl being found frozen to death within the meat locker, which is now why as an adult she sees meat and most other food as disgusting, and is thus unable to…

Pan’s Labyrinth, directed by Guillermo Del Toro, is a visually striking, dark fantasy film compiled of a range of gruesome and intriguing scenes that address themes of choice, gender and coming of age. In the ‘Final Task’ scene, the camera techniques, colour scheme, lighting, and sounds are the primary techniques used to express the ideas of good vs. evil, reality vs. fantasy, the effect of war on children and resistance. The scene begins with a high angle over the shoulder shot of Captain Vidal looking down at Ofelia, emphasising that she is vulnerable and inferior to him. The camera cuts to a shot-reverse-shot which is used to show a close up of Captain Vidal’s harshly lit face commanding Ofelia and then Ofelia disobeying him, creating tension between the two characters. Unlike the harsh lighting on Captain Vidal’s face, when the camera cuts to Ofelia the background has low-key lighting, dark shadows and blue hues.…

    3. The colour Anderson's film is very expressive in colour application, which is one of the important reasons why his films are considered unique. Each of his films will almost always be a surrealist colour, but it won't be overblown and will blend in harmony with the entire film. First, colour recreates the old European environment and architecture. The film rarely uses coloured background light source; colour often passes the costume of the person and the prop in the scene presents.…
