The Great Gatsby was written by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald. In this novel, there are many examples of color symbolism. Colors play a big role in what is going on in the book. Sometimes it may be hard to pick out, but it is there. They can represent many different things. Yellow and gold are two of the most prominent colors in The Great Gatsby. A few symbols shown by these colors are “old” money, death, and God’s eyes. Gold represents old money by being classic. Yellow is supposed to symbolize the “new”, fake money. Death is shown by the yellow car that Jay Gatsby owns. “It was a big yellow car”, he said. (Pg. 40) When Daisy runs over Myrtle in the yellow car, Myrtle dies. Another way that death is shown is by Gatsby and Daisy’s affair ending
