The purpose of this lab is to determine the Ka of an indicator within an unknown solution. This can be determined because acid-base indicators are weak bases or acids, and when neutralized they change colors. The color change is measured by the light absorption spectra in the compound which can be used to calculate the concentration. This experiment measures the concentrations by the different pH values which allows the pKa and Ka to be determined. Through the experiment, and the recorded color change with the use of the Spec 20 the unknown Ka of the solution was found.…

It’s Not Always About Colour was written on February 5 2005 in Toronto by Morgan Campbell, who was in the “white” school system for 13 years in Mississauga, the article is about how black students approach their education. He said that it wasn't racism that contributed to their bad grades it was their attitude. The author also said that many were peer pressured and bullied into thinking that if they did well that were “whitewashed” or forced to choose between good grades or ethnic identity. It’s sad that at that time if you were black you weren't expected to have good grades when everyone should be expected of the same thing.…

Lack of critical thinking does not inhibit the responsibilities of writers, to persuade readers with their perspective. The purpose of literacy is to express the human experience through a larger context. Literacy is often viewed to be limited by its language and how it addresses issues but as our world continues to develop. David Kirkland points out, in “The Skin We Ink”, that “it is important to re-conceptualize literacy as a human practice and expand English education to study its multiple forms.” If literacy was re-conceptualized to the modern era, language, formats, and other disciplines writers have used for centuries would be insignificant to the value of the literacy.…

When I first signed up for color guard, I was just following the lead of my older sister who was also doing it. Thinking this was going to be an easy experience I soon realized that it was nothing how I thought it was going to be. By experiencing the practices and how much time and effort goes into it gained a new respect for my sister for sticking with this because honestly, she was known for being lazy. After getting to feel this amazing feeling after my first performance, color guard also became a passion of mine. Color guard is can be found in most middle schools, high schools and universities.…

When I saw the flyer for color guard my eighth-grade year I was perplexed as it didn't specify what color guard was other than an exciting activity that lets you be apart of marching band. I was skeptical that I would actually like color guard but at the first clinic, I knew I had found a family and exciting activity to pursue. Watching the upperclassmen toss rifles, sabers, and flags with such ease and confidence made me excited to learn and achieve that level of confidence. This year will be my fourth year in marching band, I am still in Color Guard and it is easily one of the activities I’m most passionate about. My love to perform on the marching field takes away the anxiety I usually have, throughout the years my confidence has risen…

There are four significant lessons from Kindergarten that have survived in my memory over the course of my lifetime: how to sculpt a vase out of paper mâché, the recipe for making blue Play-Doh, all of the ways a rock can be decorated to look like a farm animal, and most importantly, how to perfectly recite the Pledge of Allegiance of the United States with correct form and proper etiquette. All of these lessons have lived in the obscure recesses of my mind for approximately 15 years, but the fourth lesson has been exercised much more frequently and certainly introduced to the lives of every other individual in America beside myself. Almost like clockwork, our muscle memory reminds us, when appropriate, to stand up, remove any headwear, place…
