The Wizard of Oz, has become a classic. Baum's story continues to affect children and adults today. Most people view the story as a simple fantasy, and some think the story symbolizes real life issues. Baum's tone gives you a good visual, it is light-hearted and whimsical as well as enchanting. When Dorothy first arrived Oz was a vibrant technicolor land, compared to the black and white Kansas prairie. Each land is symbolized by a color. Color tends to make people associate with certain feelings, which is why I believe Baum used color to reach his readers.

The land of the Munchkins is bright blue, an exciting color. It shows happiness in there spirit that surrounds that land. Friendly, helpful and full of kindness it gives a sense peaceful hope. The land of the Winkies is yellow and the

The darkness in the forests and the obstacles they face seem to represent struggle and challenges. Each dark journey tends to get them closer to a brighter more vibrate colored land or destination. So, in real life that seems relevant too. Darkness can lead to hard times and struggles but battling your way through them and conquering challenges usually brings you to a brighter place.

The vast amount of colors throughout the story seems to represent good and evil, innocence and hard work. The tin man is missing a heart, which is re. We usually associate red with love, which may have symbolized his softer side when he sympathetically cries after the insect dies. The poppies as flowers a bright colored flower at the end of the road. Something colorful and uplifting. Brightness to guide them on their journey. Both the lands and the characters seem best described by color. It sets a tone and image for the readers. It uplifts spirits and paints a mental picture as you turn to the next
