In drills we would stand out on the mat, which the size of the mat was usually ¾ of the gym. Chris the Drill instructor draw the formation that he wanted us in on a piece of paper and then put it into works on the mat. He would give each of us a round color coding label with our initials on it. He would then tell the girls where to stand and when he was satisfied with where he placed them he then said place your sticker. Each song that they did a routine to was three minutes long, so Chris had three minutes of drill to write. Three minutes of drill doesn’t seem like it would be that much but in reality, it could take hours to get everything just right. He had to look for spacing so when we spun the equipment we would not hit each other. He had to make sure we would not bump into anyone trying to get into the formation and he had to make sure it was the right shape, angle and make sure that if they were supposed to be straight lines, they were straight. Drill is one of the things that you get judged on. Each time he moved onto the next set he would give us another sticker, so we could mark were we went.
