Color Guard Loyalty

Over the past four years, color guard in the marching band has been my primary school activity. Color guard requires year-round participation with tryouts beginning in April, competition preparation beginning in March and through summer with camps, and then finally the football games and competitions in the fall. It’s an immense commitment and I believe that you really have to love it, and I did.

My participation began my freshman year and I was awful. My cousin, who was a senior captain of our team, was amazingly talented, and a great role model and I wanted to be just like her. I dedicated myself and practiced diligently to accomplish my goal. I was going to make captain my senior year.

My hard work and dedication paid off, as I was awarded my first solo my sophomore year. I was confident that I was on track to accomplish my goal of captain. Following my junior year, the decision was made, and I was

Luckily, this is one area of NC State that I have had the opportunity to experience first hand. My family has maintained season football tickets since my youth, and my Mother received her masters degree from the NC State School of Education. These opportunities have allowed me a glimpse into the diversity that is Wolfpack Nation.

Although I have lived in rural Northeastern North Carolina for my entire life, I have had the opportunity to visit such places as Alaska, the Bahamas, Hawaii, and several other states up and down the east coast. Experiencing the different cultures, socializing with people with different ideas and customs, and listening to different points of view, were the most exciting aspects of those visits. Expanding my understanding of different perspectives and the exploring of different ideas with the diverse community at NC State is a goal I hope to
