In the Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the color gold/yellow symbolizes authenticness of money, which is significant to the story because most of the story shows the class between each character and how it signifies the new and old rich. For example, “...the car that did it...it was a yellow car.” (Fitzgerald,140). This shows what old money means. It tells you that those who were already rich in the past, considering it was Daisy who was driving the car, and Daisy represents the rich. In addition to that, it means they have different priorities than other classes, and to obtain a wealthy profile. Another example to support the idea is seen in the line “...High in a white palace the king’s daughter, the golden girl…” (Fitzgerald,120).
