Latin America is an area on the map that is denoted as the countries that speak Spanish and Portuguese within the Americas. This area encloses 20 states starting from the border of North America to the end of South America. This region was first known as the home of a group of people who had one of the most advanced civilizations, the Aztecs, Incas and Mayans. This was before the arrival of the Europeans during the end of the 15th and peak of the 16th centuries. (Sutherland, 2015) Saint Dominique, also known as modern day Haiti, began their rebellion towards the end of the 18th century. Since they were known as one of France most prosperous colonies across the ocean, the slaves were determined to become a free country. They were mostly known for their advanced production of coffee, indigo cotton and etc. by the enslaved people. Not only were there African slaves conducting this revolution but also the white colony citizens began to participate because France began to enforce unreasonable tariffs on the items that were imported into the colony. This rebellion was led by Toussaint I’ Overture, who was also a former slave. After one year of rebelling they had control of part of the island. In 1793 former slaves were able to fight off the French and British forces that came to take full control of the colony again. The revolution was expanded to another Spanish colony in 1801, Santo Domingo also known as modern day Dominican Republic. The French forces were officially defeated on November 18th,1803 under the ruling of Jean-Jacques Dessalines. They were officially declared a free nation and titled Haiti on the first day of January in
