Political Effects Of The Articles Of Confederation

Colonial freedom from Britain brought many political effects towards the United States. The Articles of Confederation provided a weak central government that politically hurt the nation . In addition, the establishment of the United States Constitution impacted the ways of the government and helped build a strong federal government. On the other hand, the president provided leadership to the nation’s government. Also, the separation of powers was created as the basic kind of government that equally distributed powers amongst different branches, so no branch could have more power than the other . The Articles were established on March 1, 1781 which declared the U.S. as a republic. The document declared the functions of the national government after gaining freedom from Great Britain (“Articles of Confederation”). American colonists feared a strong central government ,and therefore the Articles were placed to establish a weak central government. As a result, the states were given a majority of government power. Under the Articles of Confederation, the government was only able to handle relationships with foreign governments and organize war against Great Britain (Morey 6-7). However, given the limited government, taxes could not be collected, and had left the nation in a large debt (Fradin 15). The Articles had prevented the government to pass laws, which meant thata tax law was unable to be set up. (“Articles of Confederation”). In addition, there was no political leader to control the nation’s issues nor any national system to put crimes to trial (Morey 7). The president played a crucial role in the government and was entrusted to lead the nation, by preventing political issues and threats from occurring.
