In society today, the citizens of America do not value the things and they have. Everything comes so easy for everyone in this society. We look at it as no more working in the fields, or working hard to get what we have. Then we bring our own selfish ways in. Back in the Roman period, the roman had to learn on their own and try new things to make it. Not worry if it as going to kill them or not. The fact that they took risk and didn’t care, really made our culture what it is today. Our cultural background came from the Roman Myths, but as an American we were never told to believe this. American often take things for granted once someone has done it for them. When the Roman first brought a lot of the …show more content…
As an outsider looking in, you’d think that the Romans would try to adapt to their environment but that’s not the case. One of the main things that we seem to look at crazy is the roman Religion. According to James Axtell in Colonial American without Indians, he states “because there would be no people on the other side; only where two peoples and cultures intersect do we have a bona fide frontier.” Basically saying that there shouldn’t be two separate religions happening at one time. The Indians style of worshiped the smaller things because they have meaning to them. They have rituals that mean a lot to them. In this time period the Europeans are Catholics, so they believe that even though they have made peace with the Indians they should still try to become what they are. The Europeans tried to slowly push their ways onto the Indians, which wasn’t working. This made the Indians question the loyalty of the “White Men”. This clash was a major deal because the “White Men” were started to disrespect the ideas of the Indians. For an example, According to William Croncon in Changes in the land: Indians, colonists, and the ecology of New England ,”The chose is not between the two landscapes, one with and one without human influences, it is between two human ways of living, two ways of belonging to an ecosystem.”(Page 12) The Europeans didn’t respect the fact that the Indians have let them come in peacefully and …show more content…
As in family air looms, that we just bring down from generation to generation. The Indians have been doing this for years once they got established. They did it with pots that’s had messages on them. So that each thing has a meaning. When reading Native American Interactions: Multiscalar Analyses and Interpretations in the Eastern Woodlands, I’ve gotten clearer understanding of the interaction between the Indians and Europeans. The Entire purpose of this paper was to inform the reader that the Indians have really paved the way for us. Even though the Europeans had already had their own beliefs when coming over here; The Indians gave them more ideas to add on what they already had in their minds. We as Americans hardly ever give credit to the Indians for showing us certain things. If it wasn’t for them trusting us and agreeing to share land with us it probably wouldn’t be how it is today. The clashes of the cultures made America what it is today. By the Indians and the Europeans fussing and going to war over land and freedoms, it has really made our world what it is today. By acknowledging the high points and the low points of this clash we also learn more than what we’ve expected to learn. According to Bitterli we all once clashed in cultures and if this didn’t happen we wouldn’t have the world we live in today. Culture is very important to
