Glory Reflection Throughout the movie Colonel Robert Shaw is emblematic of the abolitionist movement because Shaw was the first to raise and command an all black regiment for the Union army soon known as the 54th Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. Colonel Shaw was not only fighting the war for the Union, but also for his regiment. Shaw wanted to help his regiment obtain the freedom they should have and to put an end to slavery. However, Shaw faced many risks by doing this. One risk was when the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
