Colleges should be able to view a person's social media profile, if they’re looking to enroll into their school. I do not see it as invading privacy or being able to use something against them as in their race or religious beliefs. I see it as a way to get to know the student better and try to define his or her character, to help indicate which profession they are interested in, and to make sure that they act in a way that they should. Social media is a gateway into one's personality and a insight on their maturity level. In viewing a potential student’s social media page, I believe that it will not only give the school an inside look of the student, but it will also help the college's education level rise, due to the drive of the highly enrolled students who want all the education they can get. …show more content…
Fitzsimmons). In using a student's facebook page, school’s will be able to spotlight those people whose character separates them from others. Colleges should have the power to look up a student's social media page and based on how that person presents themself, decide if they should enroll them. Those who present themselves poorly should not be denied, but should be questioned and see if they can resolve the issue. Schools want to make their student's college experience unforgettable, and by creating a good atmosphere and surrounding them with positive influences on campus, that should make it easier to

Life at Latrobe in the late modernity has been easier in term of interaction between student/student and student/teacher because of the online environment that has been around for a while such as LMS, Facebook, Latrobe Library page online, and many others. All these sites mentioned above are used in a way to help all students to be part of the university social life. In addition, it is an easy way to connect with others (teacher or/and students) share experience, thoughts and ideas from Bundoora as well as other campuses. On Facebook, for example, I could communicate and participate with others' thoughts without even knowing them in the offline world.…

Based on the article, “College Kids Have Too Much Privacy” , I agree with the author that college kids are given too much privacy. According to Michele Willins of the Los Angeles Times, the law that gives college kids privacy, FERPA, is an, “unwieldy piece of legislation.” This is true because the law is only restricted to telling parents about drugs and alcohol, or sexual offenses. Anything else is left to the kid to tell their parents. A kid could be skipping all of his or her classes, and the parents would never know.…

    Outside Of School

I strongly believe that schools should not be allowed to monitor students’ social networking outside of school because it is none of their business unless it has to do with the school itself or one of its students. The parents are the ones who should regulate it if necessary. It also violates the students’ privacy. First of all, if it’s not on campus or during school hours, why should they be monitoring the students’ social media. It is none of their business what the student does outside of school unless it has to do with the school or another student.…

In a study involving 907 students at an unidentified public university in the midwest, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, it was calculated that on average a freshman student gains 7.8 pounds during their first year at college (Freshman 15 Statistics…). Many have come to know this weight fluctuation as the dreaded, “Freshman 15”. Obesity is a growing epidemic in the United States affecting more than one-third of the population. With the increasing rate of obesity and the well known fact that college students undergo a great fluctuation in weight gain, what are universities doing to make sure their students are healthy? Specifically, Penn State does a very nice job providing healthy options for their students in the many dining halls around campus.…
