The Problem
Now a days if you do not have a college degree you will probably be nothing, probably just a cook at a local McDonalds. Without a degree we can stand to lose more than ever. Since the 1960s college tuition has increased 500%, with that huge difference student loans have gotten so out of hand that in 2012 the one trillion mark of student loans was reached and have also surpassed the debt on credit cards. Which is understandable because how is it possible to go to school and pay forty thousand dollars for just two semesters of classes. That is not even including room and board, textbooks, and student loans that need to be paid off! The hard thing about scholarships is having a tiny chance of getting it when there is a whole lot of other students’ applying for the same one. For every ten scholarship a student applies they are likely to get only one of them and only 0.3 percent of students will receive a full ride scholarship. The only way of one being able to get a full ride is that individual being excellent in a particular sport or be extremely smart, but what about those that actually try why can’t they receive one. In many individuals opinion scholarships are not what they call “fair”, but who can get blamed for it, no one. Financial aid on the other hands will only help those that really need it, but not all. That is understandable, but sometimes those that really need it do not get a whole lot, because of that it turns in to a whole lot of student …show more content…
In order to have the government make college free they will have to spend about 62.2 billion dollars a year. Even then, the government wouldn’t need to make college free. What they could do is help out the majority of the people who need help. For example, the low and middle class families. Since they are in need of financial aid, the government should aid them. This will give the low class people a better opportunity at a college education. They then will be able to support their family instead of having to drop out of high school and get a full time job. As for the middle class, if they have sons or daughters going to college at the same time it can be a pain for the parents. They too would need financial aid and the government can help with this. One way they can help is to cut a fraction of military spending to help pay for some college. In 2015 alone, the military managed to spend $610 billion dollars. $610 billion dollars is a tremendous amount. The United States spend more than 7 different countries combined. With that statement alone you can see how much we overspend on the military. Some requirements that could be added to get that much financial aid from the government would have to be getting very good grades throughout high school to show that you are serious about getting your college
