College Success

College is a monumental step in a person’s life. Many people find it difficult to adjust to life full of new challenges while in college. People are often times tasked with managing a rigorous course load, working many hours throughout the week, all the while maintaining a healthy social life. In order to be successful in college, one must show enthusiasm to stay focused, determination to accomplish challenging tasks, and persistence to become a better scholar. Pursuing a college degree for four years may seem like a long, winding road filled with many challenges. That is why it is very important to remain enthusiastic while at college. First, one must find a career path that best suits them. It is often times difficult for people to find a major that they are good at and is interesting to them. Many students will go to college and find themselves unsure of what to do, sometimes changing majors several times throughout college, and that is perfectly okay. Therefore, persistence is essential to succeed while attending college. Often times success is achieved through failure, and failure isn’t necessarily the end, that is where persistence comes into play. Being persistent goes hand-in-hand with determination, as one might fail an assignment, or even a class, but it is important to keep on trying. At the beginning of my freshman year in college, I was enrolled in an English 1301 class, which I started off the semester with a grade of 80. By the end of the semester I had achieved a final grade of an 89, and while I fell short of an A, through persistence I was able to hone my writing skills and raise my grade by nine points. College requires that one must be persistent, otherwise it is easy to fall short of achieving one’s goals. It is impossible to get better at something without practice, and practice makes
