College Students Should Participate In Public Services

Many people spend thier free hours committing to public services. Public service is the act of working by the community without having to be paid. Young people should participate in these public services. The United States should require young people to do public services because it will benefit them in their education, they can give back to the community, and it can serve them well in their lives. In Peter Levine's "The Case for Service," by young teens doing public services, it benefits them when it comes to their education. Since they will be helping the community by doing services, it can help them if they have ever struggled in school and understand what career they might want to take up. In the story, there was a program named YouthBuild, where the members learned about construction trades by building house. Since college students are well suited for community service, by doing community services, they can "create...a lifelong commitment to volunteering." They can also start "addressing the needs of those around them" because by doing that, they can help their community become better than it was before. Although performing community service can be helpful towards the individual themself and to those who live in the community, young people shouldn't be required to perform public services. Young people should not be forced to complete something that they do not want to do. Nobody wants to recieve "community service from someone who is forced to serve" because it does not give a good feeling to what they are doing.
