It is not uncommon for college students to experience difficulty in transition. While many students are able to handle the change relatively well, others have encountered severe stress as well as mental health issues (Ginebaugh, 2015). With suicide towering over us as the second leading cause of death on college campuses, it becomes apparent that something must be done (Taub, 2013). However, many people are often unaware that most colleges already have some sort of suicide prevention program in place. Researchers have narrowed the grieving process down to seven stages: shock, denial, guilt, sadness, anger, and acceptance. Researchers have not, however, said how long the entire process takes since it is different for every person. There are many ways for a person to cope with the loss of a loved one, but they must be sure to pick the healthy ways. A lot of people grieving want to find help through alcohol and drugs because it makes them forget about their loved one or gives them that high they had while their loved one was still around. It is important though, to seek out different ways to cope because there are many options. Seeking support is a big one because grieving the loss of a loved one is not a process you can go through by yourself. Talking to a close friend, family member, or counselor can really help you open up about your loved one. Grand Valley has a counseling center on both the Allendale and Pew campus. They offer many different counseling opportunities including group and individual counseling. Another healthy way to cope is to establish or maintain your daily routine. After a loved one has passed, it is common for someone to change their daily life by sitting around thinking about their deceased loved one all the time. By keeping your usual routine, it keeps you active and moving. Building a structured routine will help with the grief and give you a sense of
