When observing college sports you see all these great, successful programs with a lot of prestige. You wonder sometimes who’s benefiting the most. Obviously many parties benefit from college sports because how successful of a business it has become. Some would say the universities and others would say the media but I honestly believe the student athlete benefits more out of all the party’s involved in college sports. Student athletes benefit from college sports by having an additional motivational supporting cast, great physical fitness and preparation for life in the professional world.

First, a major benefit of college sports is it gets you into great physical shape. College student athletes have access to elite work out facilities. Being a collegiate athlete not only gets you in above average physical shape, but also encourages you to become knowledgeable about and practice decent dietary habits as well. Some universities hire dieticians and nutritionists to work with student athletes to make sure they’re properly

Support from your coaching staff and fellow team members adds to the support you would normally only get from your family or professors. Your coaching staff is there for you on many levels. From getting you through the normal depressive slumps you go through in college, to pushing you to reach your academic goals, they’re always there for you. The synergy between the field and the classroom is for the most part effective at smaller universities, such as Urbana University, where the athletic and academic programs are mutually supportive. Most people think of sports and academics as to separate entities. In reality they’re intertwined because it’s necessary for you to keep your grades up to stay eligible for your sport.
