We Should Cherish Our Children's Freedom To Think Analysis

Children start going to the educational institution since five years old or earlier than that. They continue learning until going to school, college and many go to universities till they reach golden age. This shows that education is important in everyone’s life. Students are the future of a country. However, do we really produce all-rounded generations and value all of their potentials or are we actually producing fact machines and struggling competitive generations? This question caught the concerns of two authors which they discuss it along with the two articles which are “We Should Cherish Our Children’s Freedom to Think” by Kie Ho and “College Pressures” by William Zinsser”. Comparing those two articles with my experience, …show more content…
Parents always hope for the best for their children and ready to invest their money towards children’s education, but mostly in areas that are decided by them, mostly professional area. Nevertheless, for the children who have different interests, most of the times they cannot refuse because of the thought that “… parents are older and presumably wiser” (Paragraph 21) Many students are having the same problem and it makes they feel not enlightened to attend classes every day and consequently, they rarely get good results even they already tried hard to them. In “We Should Cherish Our Children’s Freedom of Thinking” article, Ho hopes that every education system provides “license to freely speak, write and be creative” (Paragraph 8) to students. Personally, I think Ho is giving the solution for this problem. Our education might be too rigid and only focuses on certain areas of students’ development meanwhile, if the students are given opportunity to think widely and creatively, till they become parents, they would always believe that in spite of only expect high for excel in studying, if they cannot achieve them, there are always spaces for them to be creative and problem-solving to improve their
