Many college students have to face different pressures in today’s education. In Zinsser’s essay, “College Pressure”, he focused on four college pressures such as economic pressure, parental pressure, peer pressure, and self-induced pressure and view them as negative for students. Instead of viewing the four pressures negatively, he should realize that these pressures will be valuable for the student in the long run. Dealing with a variety of pressure can help students to motivate themselves to finish their goal early.
Firstly, by economic pressure, Zinsser refers to the pressure about tuition. He adds “Tuition, room, and board at most private colleges now comes to at least $7,000” (20). The student does not make enough to pay for their tuition even though they have a part time job or full time. This force students to pass all their classes, so they don’t have to take it again and have to pay for it the second time. I believe a student is using economic pressure as an excuse for slacking off. If they are struggling with finances, there are others way that can help students to pay for their tuition. I have applied for some scholarships and financial aid and I received some money from it. These things help me pay for my tuition and I can continue to pursue a study that I choose. As a result, economic pressure is somewhat beneficial for students because they are paying for their own tuition, so they are forced to work harder.
