College Of Charleston: A Short Story

Decent Essays
Texas born and raised. I never thought I would find myself at college in South Carolina. Walking downtown underneath several large palmettos, I never imagined myself stumbling over the brick pathways and hitching a ride to the beach every other weekend. But here I am, and I couldn’t be happier. I found the College of Charleston through my track recruitment process. Coach Tornifolio, the assistant jumps coach, scouted me and lured me in with a scholarship and visions of a successful future here at the College.

This stems from the fact that all of the colonies in North American followed the English law of coverture. The law of coverture allowed that a married woman and her husband were legally considered a single economic unit. This meant that once a woman married regardless of what assets of monetary value she brought with her into the marriage, she was now under the guardianship of her husband.…

The sun had just risen, and I was at my friend Sujay’s house, waiting for him to come downstairs so we could begin the drive to Las Positas College, where along with three of our other friends, we would be representing our school in the Sandia Regional Science Bowl. As I waited, I felt the rush of emotions that precede all contests, and my mind began to wander. Would we win? Would we be eliminated early on?…

That’s a Wrap One of the main reasoned I picked South Carolina is because it’s my birth state, and I didn’t know much about it. Besides that selfish reason I’ve learned so many things like the fact that it has no natural lakes or the Myrtle Beach is the self proclaimed golf capital. I’m proud to being part of a family that made a small but interest part of history. So from the Palmetto State thank…

Memoir One of the scariest moments on my annual trip to South Carolina happened last year. I was at this really cool science place with lots of activities and rides, it was called Wonderworks. I was looking around at all the families and all the other kids who where about to do what I was going to, lie on a bed made of nails. The nails were facing upwards and looked really sharp, I was paranoid to lie down because I felt like I would get stabbed by 3,500 nails and I would die. Finally I walked around and worked up the nerve to go over to the bed and then I was about to lie down.…

I am interested in the Early College Academy because it is a great opportunity. I understand that I will have to do a lot more work here than in other schools because of the college courses, but that does not matter to me. I will still study and work hard for the duration of my time here. This is the only school in which I can knock off two years of college for free. I also like the schedule here and how it's shorter, but I understand that I will have to use the rest of the time for studying and that's alright for me because in order achieve one's goals one has to work hard and that's what I…

In, high school I realized I really liked history and reading it was very interesting to me.…
