On the other hand others feel that students don’t need more privacy because they enough already. From this perspective, the schools feel that the students don’t need that much privacy because all the schools want to make for their students is to help them the best they can. In an article called “College Kids Have Too Much Privacy” a Los Angeles Times publisher named Michele Willens discusses why teens shouldnt have privacy rights. The Article talks about how a mother finds out that her daughter has never graduated and that the last two years she never went to class. The mother finds this news out by a roommate that her daughter had and not by the school. Article also talks about how 45% of students who enter college each year will not graduate …show more content…
It also shows how schools can make these two issues not be as a big problem with multiple of ways schools can improve their rules and not invade the teens privacy's. One way to make sure the students do have their privacy and know the rights they do have is to go over the rules with the students and have them sign the policy's when all done hearing all the rules then just have them sign the rules (Muthler 1). Schools have to do a better way to explain all the rules the students have to follow and let them know what the school can do if they break one of these rules so students can’t argue with the school. This will help show that students don't need more privacy rights because students are using their privacy in poor …show more content…
In sum, the issue is whether schools should give students less privacy in school or teens should have more privacy in school. My own view is that teens should have more privacy when in school. Though I concede that not giving teens more privacy can help in some ways like in their grades and trying to stop cyber bullying, I still maintain that teens should have more privacy at school. For example, students joke and play around with each other a great deal and say things they don’t really mean so school shouldn’t be looking over the students’ media or through the webcam of their computers. Although some might object that how will the school know the students are joking around with each other or whether what they are saying is real or not, I reply that you can call them down and just have one on one talks about why they are saying the things they are and not go into the student's privacy like their computers, phones or on their media accounts. The issue is important because students do deserve their privacy when being at school because no one likes other people to be in their business and school is where most students spend their time during the days. This modern evolution is one that could potentially remove any equality that people fought for in equal rights movements, especially any changes to school policy about including more resources on past events. Lukainoff and Haidt state that everyone has to be careful about what they say or they may be accused of “insensitivity, aggression, or worse”. The one thing that everyone seems to want to avoid in modern society is conflict and this revolution that is sweeping schools is taking away any reason that people may have conflict, and sheltering the students from any real world experiences. By bringing in outside testimony the authors are creating a valid authority to their article and this helps with the authenticity of the paper. Two phrases that are used consistently throughout the article are “micro aggressions” and “trigger warnings” (1).…

Freshman Penny Lane writes, “My friends and I feel a lot safer knowing that their aren’t drunk people and fights at school stuff ... School is suppose to feel safe”. What Jenny means is that she didn’t feel safe before the policy was proposed, but now that the policy was passed, she states that she feels safer with it in effect. By having a safer school, students tend to have more pride in it. The survey that was given to the entire student body on March 16, 2014 proved this to be right.…

The Constitution and the Amendments are the basics of the US’s politics. However, sometimes, people, especially young people and teenagers, don’t have enough knowledge about it and so, they begin to abuse it as an excuse for any problem. Fortunately, in his “Why First Amendment still matters to students” article, Tony Mauro addressed this issue, but in a smaller scale, in schools and among students. To be more specific, according to Mauro, school officials often develop amnesia about the Tinker case, the case where a student was being violated of her rights by school officials, whenever a student deviates from some standard of behavior. Even though he had good intention when saying this, Mauro’s point of view was off target.…

In the two stories, “The seduction of Safety, on Campus and beyond” by Roxane Gay and “Silly student Protesters Have It Wrong: “Safe Space” are Incompatible with a University” by Charles C.W. Cooke are both different in values and priorities. In Gay’s articles she believes that there is a chance for people to have “safe space” where they are able to be better in their own way. In Cooke article he think the opposite that there should be no change that they need to maintain focused on the real problem that are there classes. In the article “The seduction of safety, on campus and beyond” by Roxane Gay many of the values and priorities where different because the writer had different points of view in which she stated, “Those who take safety for granted disparage safety because it is, like so many other rights, one that has always been inalienable to them.”…

I agree with Harlan Coben because the internet can be dangerous if not careful . The proper way that I think would be most effective would be just tell your teens to look out for certain things that may be dangerous. Also if you are planning on spying on your kids at least advise them you are doing so , because that would be wrong to invade their privacy. In Cobbins argumentative / persuasive essay , his argument was similar to mine because he supports the the fact of spying but also defended the privacy of teens. One reason to support the fact of monitoring kids would be that it may support them by reducing their chances of getting in trouble.…

Students do not "shed their constitutional rights at the schoolhouse gate," the Supreme Court famously said that in Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District. However, in the digital age, the formal request of Tinker has been very complicated by the fact that the schoolhouse gate is no longer restricted in certain categories to a brick-and-mortar structure, but may it now be a student 's home computer, tablet, or cell phone. In recent years, the number of social media and technology has provided people who teach others and people who support a policy alike with challenges concerning the legal rule made and protected by authority of student behavior, speech, and facial expressions, and whether the famous Tinker declaration stays…

The use of the internet over the years by high school students has grown exponentially, it is not only hurting their social skills but their education as well. High School students aren’t putting enough effort into what they are doing because they are too busy looking at something online. And it has gotten to a point where some high school teachers find it okay. We ourselves, as high school students or former high school students, are only making things worse by following in the same footsteps. For example some students today don’t even worry about making the grade or working hard on a project that is due soon, all they have to do is search it on Google and copy and paste the first thing that comes up.…
