There comes a time in everyone’s life where they must consider the idea of going to college. To some college is a chore or an obligation to fulfill, to others it’s an opportunity of a lifetime that must be cherished. No matter which category you fall in, you will find that there is problems that cannot be avoided and you must overcome them or fail. A major problem that must be addressed by all is acceptance. College is no different than the world that we face each day. The atmosphere that he grew accustomed to during his rich life plays a huge role in his experience through college. Uniquely enough Thornton does not put much thought into whether he should or shouldn’t go to college. Having already achieved wealth and power, he does not have a goal in sight for attending college. Wanting to support his son’s decision to go to college and on a deeper level be accepted by Jason, he buys his way into the University. Money is the answer to everything in Thornton’s mind, by buying and giving things away he creates friends, along with that he pays titled people to do his homework, such as NASA, and Kurt Vonnegut. What ultimately drove Thornton to take his work in school seriously, was his son who confronted him with his feelings about Thornton’s attitude in money being the solution to everything. Two other huge influences on Thornton’s change of mindset was Valerie one of Thornton’s teachers who he had a romantic interest in, Dr. Phillips. Dr. Phillips saw beyond Thornton’s money and flattery, in reality Dr. Phillips made Thornton’s life difficult as a student and brought to light Thornton’s cheating. Striving to be accepted by those he cared for, Thornton began to party less for a period of time and put forth an effort concerning his
