With the first semester underway, everyone I interviewed seemed well acquainted to their new life. Fearful of the new environment, the freshman came in with unsettling nerves. Mostly worried about the roommate and privacy aspect, making friends seemed almost impossible. Kevin Rafferty, senior in pursuit of his accounting degree, had a few choice words about the situation: “It was, surprisingly very easy… everyone’s in the same situation, and you forget that moving in. Everyone’s on the same boat”. With the tension gone, the freshman have definitely opened up since the first stressful weeks. More bonding and getting to know one another has helped to mold the friendships they all have now.
School work also proved as a major difference between both levels of learning. It came up as a common answer that while there is an abundance of college papers, labs and essays due, there was a lot more time to do them all in. The students are able to manage their time more effectively, with less stress on them every day. Lucia Donia, freshman under the open option education major, proclaimed, “Yea you get a lot of work, but the stress level is not as high… it’s not in such a demand”.
