College Honors Program Reflection

The Missouri A+ program allowed me to reach out to impoverished elementary students. Through this program, I learned how to break down materials students were already familiar with and present it to them in multiple ways. I used this skill to help children improve on their times tables, simple science, and reading abilities. I’ve also applied this method when tutoring middle school students who were struggling with algebra and history. The key to effective tutoring is finding out how your tutee learns and applying that method to every subject they struggle with. Although the oldest

I have a strong, positive, and determined mindset whenever I’m faced with a challenge. I never let any situation take control over my emotions or ability to work. As a student of the Honors College, I will teach others my methods of keeping a level head and persevering through even the toughest issues, whether they be a complex assignment or an internal torment. I always encourage people to look for a solution to a problem before they look for all the reasons why they could fail. I hope to bring this mindset to the students of the University of

My School district I’ve been in since halfway through kindergarten has one high school, two junior highs, a couple of middle schools and a variety of elementary schools; the fire trucks for the town have the high school mascot on the side. Small town education is different in the way that honor classes have a set of students that take them, and there is rarely a variation from this set of students in those classes. I saw that many students who did not start honors classes in junior high do not think that they can take these advanced classes, they have become viewed as “elite”. My sophomore year history teacher that year agreed with me that the view needed to be changed, so she sponsored a club we headed named “AP Ambassadors”. “AP Ambassadors”…

The purpose of this program is to assist students from the day they enter the college until the day they graduate in class registration and the transfer process. The goal of the program is to offer college education in a different path than attending a 4-year institution for all four years. American Honors offers assistance to students through scholarships and a full fledge army of useful advisors. It was designed to help students achieve a 4-year institution, but for a much more affordable cost. This allows students to lessen their financial trouble coming out of college because they will attend a 2-year institution for the first part of their degree, then attend a 4-year institution for the final two years of their degree/program.…

I feel it is very important to demonstrate qualities including leadership, scholarship, character, and service daily no matter where you are, what are you doing, or who you may be with. Leadership starts daily when one rises for the day. Preparing for the day, whether for school or work, not being late, being ahead of schedule shows interest in your challenges; your preparedness for your work. This also applies no matter where you are, for there are others that notice your actions and words regardless, of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or social or economic standing.
