College Hockey Tryout Analysis

When I was 15, I was cut first round at High Performance Minnesota tryouts. High Performance is the tryout program that eventually selects the best players in the country to play on the USA U18 National Team. When there is no NHL to look forward too as a woman, I strived to play college hockey and represent the United States of America at the national level. This cut was devastating, it ended many of my friends’ hockey careers, but it only pushed me to improve. Every practice and every game I played was my fullest effort to out work every player in Minnesota. After two years of this dedication to improving, I had transformed myself into one of the top prospects and players in Minnesota. I could compete with the best, and in 2016 I was invited

As soon as my dad could put a glove on my hand the learning process began and after my first practice I fell in love with the game. From that point on all I did was softball, it was my safe place, my other home and the one thing I knew I could do something great in. I would always want to just throw with my dad or my brother, as little as I was I wanted to show them that I could catch the hard balls they threw. Of course though, I couldn’t but I was in the process of getting there.…

From an objective point of view, one would say that the Tim Horton’s Timbits Minor Sports Program is a very generous and beneficial program based purely on its statistics. My subjective point of view does not differ from this one bit. I think that Time Horton’s charitable actions have been so helpful to the youth of Canada. I like the fact that the program offers various sports in order to cater to the kids’ desires. The size of the program I find is an unbelievable number.…

Sometimes, in sports or in life in general, there are favorites and underdogs. There is a general consensus that the favorite team or player will win but sometimes it`s the underdog that wins and receives all the honor related with that win. This is very similar to what I read about Seabiscuit and what I watched in the video of Jason McElwain. Some people have the ability to transcend their underdog status (ie. Red from Seabiscuit and Jason) and create something very special.…

The Tournoi International de Hockey is the biggest youth hockey tournament in North America and is held each year in Quebec City, Canada. Every year thousands of kids ages 10-12 come to this tournament, and I was fortunate to be one of the selected players from Georgia to play in this tournament. Through this two week tournament, I got the chance to stay with a family from Quebec and experience what they do on a daily basis. With this family, whom I am still in contact with today, I learned a new culture, got to tour the city and have some memories that I will never forget. To add to the experience, all the games were played the Pepsi Colisee, which is a NHL sized rink.…

My domination of easily breezing by my neighbors in street hockey and always ranked at the top of stat sheets for scoring in recreational hockey, abruptly ended when I joined my first competitive travel hockey team. My first game exemplified the setbacks my fear imposed on my team when I frighteningly moved out of the way of an enormous player to grant him a free pass to the net in which he scored the game winning goal. Shamefully looking at me as if I were an ally of the other team, I became alienated after my team after they began the tradition of…

The progress I have made since when I first began playing is immeasurable. I have come as far as I have in hockey through all the years of support from my father, because he’s always been happy to watch me play competitively.…
