(1) (a) As learned in the previous chapter, there are local, national, international, and private sectors that help aid through direct assistance or partnerships in controlling diseases. A college health nurse resides more within the community. The role of the nurse within the identification/recognition and reporting a possible outbreak is to simply see the characteristics of a specific illness. This individual must recognize if it a characteristic of a common infection or if it is something else. Therefore, they must maintain surveillance on the signs and symptoms and make sure it is not something more serious that would have to been seen through state departments or event national level sectors.

The nurse should move to team triage as an intervention for this diagnosis. This assigns physicians, nurses, and technicians to help during the triage process. By doing this, the waiting times endured by patients are reduced. This allows for the outbreak to be assessed quicker, more efficiently, and has more patients being treated. Treating more patients can ensure others that this outbreak will be treated, therefore, possibly increasing how the community copes with this in an appropriate manner.

5. (a) During an actual bioterrorism event, the nurse would simply not be able to do much than treat a few patients. It would be a disaster event that exceeds the capabilities and resources the nurse has to offer.
(b) A disaster triage is different than an emergency plague. Disaster triage require nurses to do the most good for the most people. Therefore, the nurse must know that they will not be able to treat everyone. Comfort care should be provided to those dying patients. A college nurse must also know what characteristics are needed to put people in different priority
