College For Everyone

College was something that was hard to get into in earlier years. Only wealthy men were able to get a higher education. As the years went by, women started going to college and it became more available for people. College degrees are in high demands of most careers now. I believe that a college education should be easily available for everyone, although college is not for everyone. I believe that a person should have a choice, if they wanted to go to college, to have easy access to a university. The economy is expanding and careers are advancing, so needing a higher level education is becoming a necessity. Some careers such as a plumber, a hair stylist, a dental hygienist, etc. does not require a college degree. If someone is looking into a career that doesn’t require a degree that person should not go to college. Another reason that college is not for everyone is because of the academic requirements. Charles Murray explains that, “Traditionally and properly understood, a four-year college education teaches advanced analytic skills and information at a level that exceeds the intellectual capacity of most people” (677). Several people are in college that do not have the IQ level to be able to pass their classes. People that do not have the intelligence to go to college should go straight into the workforce. Another reason college is not for everyone is because some students do not have the desire to learn and just want to be there for the environment. Murray also states that, “They go to college because their parents are paying for it and college is what children of their social class are supposed to do after they finish high school” (677).
