On October 11, 2015 I observed a college soccer game at Western State Colorado University; Western against Colorado Mesa University (Mavericks). However this time instead of just watched the event for entertainment, I had the opportunity to look at the athlete's mental game and other factors that composed the competition. Upon arrival of the game you could already feel that it was a not kick ball at the park. These women meant serious business, they had the music turned up and they were kicking soccer balls like their life depended on it. As the game started to get rolling you could definitely sense some friction between the two rivals. As the rival team Colorado Mesa University stepped on to the field, a group of students sitting in lawn …show more content…
The energy that the game started with had diminished into a low rumble. In the last few minutes the girls really started to get rowdy. A girl on the western team #8 she put an elbow into the mesa girl #15, there was some serious aggression. Sitting in the stands you could feel the tension. They were talking to one another, unfortunately out of ear ranger. But their faces told the story fairly well. The both locked eyes and stared with rage. In regards to the personality theory, it is safe to say that the western girl #8 was taking a trait approach because the cause of her behavior was coming from with in the person. A few factors that most likely attributed to this behavior would be the lack of energy, other frustrations which could be the other player or even herself. As the last few minutes of the first half ran out you could see that both teams sincerely needed the game to come to a …show more content…
As the game proceeded it was apparent that Western was definitely tuned into everything that was occurring. They were a sharp team and they were really working well together. I would definitely say that their team would be in the performing phase. Because the group appeared to have a clear understanding in what their role was on the field and executing the task while communication to the other members of the team and the coach. Western’s soccer team had great group cohesion on the field. The atmosphere that the community created was a positive competition environment. There was definitely more prominent leader in the group, which was great that they could step into that role and have active followers as well. Their cohesion was definitely at its best because all of their hard work paid off, they made a point! The coaches and the crowd roared with excitement because the goalie missed the block and the ball rolled into the net. From their the team just got into a grove and continued to feed off of the crowd and one another. You could easily see that Mesa was struggling mentally, after Western made the goal Mesa’s energy and communication and motivation came to a halt. I was imagining their thought were something like “They already made a goal and there's not enough time, so why even try”. With Mesa struggling mentally the game quickly came to a close with the results of Western taking the

The court was quiet, we lacked motivation but maintained a lead for most of the match but only by a point or two. It felt like we put in as much energy as needed to pull off a win. But with that said, we still had some great moments in the court. Claire Caldera and Allie Eveleth have gotten stronger in their attacks. Janae Roberson has begun to be a forceful blocker in the middle and our setters, Grace and Julian, continue to push our offense to be better with each match.…

Central Dewitt’s football program usually has a tradition of great success and excellent morals. Unfortunately, in the 2014 and 2015 football season they have a combined record of 5-13, which does not live up to the standards of the DeWitt community. There are many problems circulating the football program, but most involve the lack of experience in coaching. I believe college athletics would most benefit from an analysis of conscience because many problems arise from or are related to this aspect of college life. From my knowledge, there have been many occasions in which athletes did not have to endure the same consequences as non-athlete students might endure due to the college placing a greater importance on improving and/or maintaining their athletic performances, with the goal of being the best at the collegiate level. The one issue that unfortunately comes to mind is sexual violence on college campuses. This can also relate to the alcohol culture that is seen on college campuses, as alcohol and binge-drinking increases sexual violence. On another note, the pressures that some colleges place…
