This photo is of a Washington State Cheerleader performing a full basket. To perform this stunt, 3 bases interlock their arms while the top girl stands crouched down on their hands. The bases dip down and then throw the top girl as high as they can into the air in a straight line as the top girl stands up. She performs a stunt when she feels weightless at the top of the throw. In this photo, you can clearly see that she is twisting her body on two different axes, but I will only be talking about her twisting on the vertical axis.…

If you ask any competitive cheerleader what Carly Manning is famous for, they will most likely say her stunting. Carly was one of the first people to do a kick full kick full in a basket toss. A basket toss is pretty much exactly what is sounds like, there three people on the ground and they kind of just throw her in the air as high as they possibly can. Carly’s jumps are all hyper extended which every cheerleader wants, because they just look amazing. Hyper extended jumps are where when you do say a toe touch, your legs to above your arms.…

Cheerleaders get injured just like I do. In “True Tale of a Young Cheerleader”, Brandi S. discussed the routines that her team was required to learn, and described one as “such an extreme and dangerous stunt that [she] had gotten [her] shoulder pulled out of its socket.” She goes on to talk about the excruciating pain she endured after a fall during this particular stunt, but never once did she say that cheerleading was a mistake or too dangerous. She never said that she didn’t want to cheer anymore or fear that she would get hurt again. After her recovery, Brandi returned to cheerleading and vowed to “never lose [her] focus in the middle of stunting ever again”.…
