When we hear the word Prejudice we only think it refers to the color of one’s skin be it dark skin or light skinned. However it’s much more than that Prejudice can be between genders, religion, cultural and geographical background. This drawback has been around for hundreds of years and has affected our way of reasoning.
Prejudice is a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. Back in the 1600’s blacks and whites couldn’t share bathrooms, use the same drinking fountain, weren’t allowed in certain dining areas and the schools were segregated. 50 years later African-Americans now have the same equal rights as whites but are still victims of prejudice.

A scapegoat is a person who is blamed for the wrongdoings, mistakes, or faults of others, especially for reasons of expediency. Our country is more accepting of outsiders from other countries when the economy is booming but the second it begins to deteriorate we look for someone to blame. The people that they put the blame on are the Latinos. Republican candidate for President Ron Paul has even said that Latinos have become scapegoats. When Paul was in Nevada he stated “I believe Hispanics have been used as scapegoats, to say, they’re the problem instead of being symptom maybe of a problem with the welfare state.” (Ganga) I agree with what Paul had to say because people aren’t holding the country as a whole or the government accountable for the downfall of the economy they just point fingers at a particular race or person and say it’s their fault our economy is no longer blooming.
