My gender identity follows what most of society says is okay but for people who differ from me, their experiences can be detrimental to the rest of their lives. A person who varies from their assigned gender and grows up in a home with a close-minded family, it can be very difficult to tell them that they are different than they were expecting. The parents raised their child thinking they had a perfect son, only to find out that their son is a daughter. It can be very difficult for the parents, but even more different for the child. It does not change who the kid is, the kid is now their perfect daughter. My friend, Gabe, is still not out to his mom. He fears that his mom will kick him out of the house if he tells her who he really is. This can be a very difficult environment to live in. Half of the time, Gabe is Gabe, and the other half Gabe feels like he has to be Tatianna. Gabe has turned to hurting himself and attempting suicide. This is not a healthy way for Gabe to cope. If he had a way to talk about his feelings, I feel like that would be a huge benefit for him. Having alternatives for self-harm is also something that can positively impact him. Surrounding himself with individuals who are going to except him no matter what has been incredibly helpful as
