Imagine it is a regular day but all of the sudden there is a tightening, anxious feeling in your chest for a split second. Then multiply that second by minutes and maybe even hours sometimes, and this is what anxiety can feel like for some people. At first there will be many questions racing through your mind. What is this feeling? Why is this happening to me? How do I make it stop? Most of the time this is just the beginning and it can take over thoughts and actions. The mental disorder known as anxiety is a nervous disorder, but what most people do not know is that anxiety can be caused by many things, and cured with nothing but time.
Anxiety is “a nervous disorder characterized by a state of excessive uneasiness and apprehension, typically with compulsive behavior or panic attacks” (dictionary). For most people they seek help through psychotherapy, talk therapy, or even medicine. What most people do not realize is that getting medication for anxiety does not help cure this mental health disease. Instead it relieves symptoms for a short amount of time and that is why medication is only prescribed for a short amount of time. Medication does not provide the help that most people need but an effective coping mechanism is going to talk therapy. Two different types of talk therapy are just one on one with a expert or a group talk therapy like cognitive behavior therapy. Cognitive behavior therapy is when people get help from people that have experienced the same thing that they are. When people do cognitive behavior therapy they find new ways to think, act, behave, and deal with stress and anxiety. On the other hand; when people do one on one talk therapy there can be big breakthroughs in what their fears are and why they have
