College isn't just about what you learn in the classroom. It is pretty well agreed that a college degree is still highly valuable. One of the main benefits of a college education is the exposure to new ideas, knowledge and people. College universities are very diverse and can offer students many new experiences. College curriculum is meant to challenge your beliefs and values. Exposure to challenging curriculum teaches you new skills on how to handle certain situations. The purpose of a college education is to not be closed minded or protected but to challenge personal beliefs/views and expand knowledge.
College education gives students a chance to meet new people from many different cultures. College can offer students social development. …show more content…
College teaches you different perspectives, opening your mind to this will make you a more worldly person because of learning about different perspectives you can now understand a subject stronger by examining different perspectives. Personal opinions now can continually be improved, updated, and changed. Some courses in college will challenge personal views and opinions but this offers a chance to grow and learn more. Academic freedom is in danger. Trigger warnings are a popular topic among colleges. Some believe trigger warnings are needed when expressing stressful material. Some colleges are even making it a policy to include trigger warnings in the syllabus. In America now, Richson argues “Victims of PTSD do not have more to learn about the academic subject matter that it is traumatic for them; they have lived it(Richson 98). Although the reason behinds trigger warnings are splendid. Enforcing trigger warnings as a policy on college campuses endangers the learning for others. A student should address the problems with the professor. Students who suffer should not have to relive the event in the classroom but for students who have no knowledge on a sensitive subject are restricted to not learning that material.
