In Michael Wilbon’s article, “College Athletes Deserve to be Paid”, Michael goes on to state that College athletes deserve to be paid simply based on the fact that they are drawing so much money in for the college. He states the most logical way to pay these athletes is to give them a salary. Yes, the most logical alternative to athletic scholarships would be to eliminate scholarships for athletes and simply give them a yearly salary. This sounds like a very good plan, however, this would not benefit the institution whatsoever. If the college or university was $65,000 a year, the school would simply give this money out using their scholarship money under the current system.…

Some may agree, and most of them make a compelling point as to why they shouldn’t. Some of these points are because the athletes get paid already in scholarships and specific aids. " What she fails to mention is that most of these things that the athletes receive only cover a small portion of the actual whole cost of living and learning, and being sheltered, and traveling; the list could go on.…

If they want to get paid they should work hard and make it to the pros. With coaches making upwards of $7 million dollars a year and television ratings for its game coverage skyrocketing, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has had its fair share of good times in the 21st century. The association has also had its worst times as well, “the NCAA has never been more vulnerable and on the defensive with regards to it policies and practices, especially its reliance on the age-old characterization of college athletes as “amateurs” who are first and foremost “student-athletes” and the limits its members have collectively imposed on the remuneration these players receive” (Sanderson 115). Plain and simple, the NCAA does not want to dish out money to players to compensate for their play time. The NCAA views the athlete only as that amateur and not as an employee of the association.…
