They are growing up and need to learn how to live on their own without mom and dad sending them money all the time, there is not time for a job. While the college coaches are making six figures, these athletes are lucky to even get 100 dollars. Many argue that Paying these athletes would lose competitiveness of the sports but they are wrong because, many professional athletes get paid by their performance, so it’s a competition to be the best you can be so you can get paid at the most possible. The money that these athletes make for their school, doesn’t even contribute to their universities at all because if they did their would be more academic opportunities in america. I think it is important to pay these athletes because, many don’t have wealthy parents that can support them while they are in college, these athletes have no one to rely on. Some may agree, and most of them make a compelling point as to why they shouldn’t. Some of these points are because the athletes get paid already in scholarships and specific aids. As Rebecca Zissou states in the article, “Fair Play: Should College Athletes Get Paid?” "Many top players receive tuition, books, tutoring, housing, meals, clothing, elite coaching, medical care, travel expenses, and career counseling. " What she fails to mention is that most of these things that the athletes receive only cover a small portion of the actual whole cost of living and learning, and being sheltered, and traveling; the list could go on.…

Many Division 1 athletes can receive up to $60,000 multiyear scholarships and some Division 2 athletes can receive partial scholarships. They are getting these scholarships to help pay for an education because most of them can’t afford to go to a Division 1 or Division 2 school. Also these players are bringing in money for their schools by TV contracts, advertising, merchandising and ticket sales. The top men’s basketball and football teams can bring in about $140 million a year and by doing that, it can help them have those scholarships. Another reason I don’t think that college athletes should get paid, is because they are getting a free education…

They probably won’t even be able to work anyway because they spend so much of their time focused on their sport. People say that athletes are not going to school for money their going for an education, but everyone that is going or ever went to college has gone to get a good job that pays a lot of money. People don’t just go to college just for the education and be done that would be a waste of time. Athletes sometimes don’t even have time for classes because they are so busy with their sport. “This involvement often conflicted with potential academic time: Afternoon practice conflicted with the required courses or labs in certain majors, games and road trips conflicted with the time athletes needed for exams and term papers, and booster functions cut into their discretionary time.…

The first reason why student athletes should be paid is because scholarships that NCAA give to students don’t always cover full expenses (Christopher Davis Jr / Dylan Oliver Malagrino 2013). Universities promise students 4 year scholarships when NCAA only give 1 year scholarships and at any moment take the scholarship back if injuries happen or encounter takes place. Some scholarships cover the classes, books, and maybe dorms but leave out food, transportation or health coverage.…

Unfortunately what critics lack to admit is that normal student’s face these same issues, being involved in on campus clubs and other ordeals those normal students face no one truly has a lot of time to get a job. Athletes have built in connections that non-athletes do not have, so being on an athletic team is by far more advantageous then simply being a student. So why should student athletes be the only students benefitting monetarily for their hard work (College Athletes). No one is enslaving nor, “forcing these athlete-students to play football. Don't hand me the garbage about it being their only opportunity in life.…

If the athletes were getting paid, then this would be considered as a job. With all that is going on, that would be the last thing that would need to happen. If this was considered a “job,” then they would have to meet a ton of requirements, which would cause a lot of pressure perhaps. Again, like it was mentioned before, they go to college to get a better education for their field and play sports also. They are not going to earn an income for playing college sports.…
