According to some, getting a full ride to a college isn’t enough. Many think that college athletes should be getting paid because their sport, is their job. Others think that getting a full ride to go to school is enough and college athletes get enough benefits as it is. College athletes may take an educational decline to support their team but these athletes have many tools for success that everyday students are having to pay for. College athletes shouldn’t be paid to play sports because many are already getting scholarships to help out the financial aspect of college, recruiting athletes would be even more based on having a powerhouse, wealthy school than it already is, and these athletes are given an opportunity to become professional athletes,

One they can go to school free of charge, and two they get to continue on their growth in athletics. For some the ability to go to school for free isn’t enough, and getting paid is what many are looking for. Yes, it requires a tremendous amount of work to be a student-athlete, and playing the sport is more like a job. But it is this extra amount of work that sets these athletes apart from the rest of the student body. In order to live the dream of playing a collegiate sport, one must work the extra mile to break away from the pack. Getting paid for athletics may seem like it’s logical with the amount of money college games earn, but getting paid to play a sport is what sets the pros and the up and comers apart. How would the University disperse the money between all of the athletes anyways, would it be based on skill or position? There is no answer, there would never be a fair way to pay. Paying the athletes is no the solution. The solution is to make the athletes realize that almost nobody on the team will play professionally. The NCAA announces that under two percent of college athletes will play professionally in football and basketball. These athletes need to realize that they are fortunate enough to play the sport while they can, and that it allows them to get educated for a career in the future. Because of the miniscule chances of turning the actual sport into a career, these athletes need to appreciate the opportunity they are given to earn an education. If Universities across the country were allowed to pay their athletes, the recruiting system would be even more uneven towards the richer and more desirable Universities. Because of the wealth some Universities possess, the athletes would be drawn to the places with more money, like gators drawn to fresher and riper meat. Getting paid in money to play a sport is what separates college-athletes from professional-athletes. Just because the athletes aren’t seeing any actual cash, doesn’t mean they aren’t getting paid. An education is worth a fortune to some people, and student loans can leave a financial burden on anybody. Yet some athletes are looking for their share of the cut on top of their college education.
