College Athletes Should Be Paid Essay

Would you want to devote all of your time and effort into something that you were passionate about and still not get the right money, attention, and gratitude you deserve. Well the demands of school and football make it nearly impossible to have a job and make money as a student-athlete (Dodd). A typical day consists of conditioning in the morning, class in the afternoon, evening practice and meals, with the hope that when it’s all said and done, some actual studying or homework will be done. Many people would argue that college student-athletes are normal students. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Most college student-athletes struggle to get gas money to visit family and don’t have enough money to buy extra food and resources.(Dodd) College football programs do not respect how much time their athletes put into their program, which is why football …show more content…
They should receive a monthly allowance so that they know there is some kind of income after their school day. By the time the season is over they have very little food and even less money to support themselves. The school still thinks of them as normal students, with time on their hands, just like every other average student. They are held accountable to reach a certain expectation when the athlete signs a scholarship so they devote all their time to reach that goal.(strachan) For the amount of time and dedication that it takes, the school should compensate the athlete by at least giving them free cloths, food, and an education counselor if necessary. Some schools had already taken action and began to pay their college football athletes, but their decision was shot down and the programs were fined by the NCAA (Strachan). New studies have shown that the NCAA is easing their way into paying student-athletes and showing some kind of concern for the hard work the athletes provide, but it needs to happen sooner rather than
